Crafting custom music for Sean Baker’s Anora — a film that took home the Palme d’Or at Cannes—was a thrilling journey. I had the opportunity to create original tracks that aligned with the film’s edgy, atmospheric style. Under my Electropoint alias, I worked to bring gritty, synth-heavy trap elements to specific scenes, especially during intense club moments that pulse with raw energy and emotion.
Unlike my usual scoring of a film, with Anora, I wasn’t given picture to compose to, but rather I was given the settings that the music would need to exist in – namely the nightlife of Brighton Beach. Each track is driven by heavy synths and deep beats, capturing the tension and complexity of Anora’s setting. These pieces amplify the mood, serving as a sonic backdrop that deepens the audience’s immersion in the narrative.
Creating this music was both a creative and technical exercise, blending my production experience with the nuanced demands of cinematic storytelling. Each sound was selected to evoke the right atmosphere—whether it’s the anticipation, the grit, or the pulse of a night in a neon-lit club. I’m grateful for the chance to have contributed to a project of this caliber and excited to share my work with audiences.
With Anora now playing in theaters in New York and Los Angeles, and a nationwide release coming up in November, I look forward to seeing how these tracks resonate with viewers, adding yet another layer to the film’s immersive experience.
